I can feel it in the air. Something is shifting. The sun is feeling a bit warmer. The daylight staying for a little longer into the evening. The nights are not as chilly.

The flowers are blooming and the grass is looking greener than it has in six months.

Beltane—May 1st in the Northern Hemisphere, is the Sabbat on the Witch’s Wheel of the Year (aka the Celtic Wheel of the Year, or many other iterations out there) in which we celebrate the peak of the spring season, and the first sparks of summer on the horizon.

Beltane is considered to be a cross-quarter festival, which means it’s halfway between the Spring Equinox (Ostara) and the Summer Solstice (Litha).

Some themes of Beltane are:

  • The sacred union of the Goddess and God (Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine)

  • Fertility in all forms — plants, animals, sexuality and symbolically — your creative projects and intentions

  • The awakening of Mama Earth

  • The power and fire of the sun, returning in full strength

  • Abundance, joy and life-force energy

  • The veil thinning—it’s an especially good time to seek out protection and guidance from ancestors and your spirit guide team (Samhain is the other Sabbat in the opposite half of the year that is good for this!)

I love to perform mini rituals on Beltane as a cleansing and resetting, prepping myself for the season of abundance ahead of me.

You can perform this simple ritual if you’d like to follow along with Wheel of the Year and the celebration of Beltane.
